How many units do you need?

This is the question most people get wrong, in both directions. Order too few and your event falls apart. Order too many and you paid for units nobody used. Here is how we work it out.

On a construction site, it is not a guess

The portable sanitation industry works to ANSI/PSAI Z4.3-2025. These are the numbers for units serviced once a week:

Fifteen men on a job off Highway 17 is a two-unit job. Thirty is three.

OSHA's legal floor is lower — 29 CFR 1926.51 lets you put one unit on a site of twenty — but the legal minimum and a crew that is actually looked after are two different numbers. We quote to the industry standard.

Those figures assume servicing once a week. We can service more often than that, and on a busy site it makes a visible difference.

For an event, a bar changes everything

ANSI/PSAI Z4.4-2025 sets the numbers for events. This is a four-hour event:

Look at the 250 row. Four units without a bar, nine with one. That gap is the most expensive mistake people make booking an event, and the old "one unit per fifty guests" rule of thumb walks you straight into it — it would have told you five.

Longer events need more again. A 150-guest wedding running six hours with a bar is closer to seven units than five. Tell us the headcount, the hours and whether there is a bar, and we will give you the number rather than a guess.

We can service daily if the job needs it

Most companies run a weekly route and that is all you get. We service on the schedule the job actually needs — weekly on a steady crew, daily on a busy site or a multi-day event. Heavy use, hot weather, or a unit taking more traffic than anyone planned for: tell us and we will come more often. A unit that is serviced properly is the whole difference between a porta potty people use and one they walk past.

ADA accessible units

We carry ADA accessible units. They are wider, they are at ground level, and they give a wheelchair room to turn. If you are running a public event, a venue, or a job site that needs one, ask for it when you book — do not wait and hope. Say how many you need up front and we will have them on the truck.

Where to put it

Placement decides whether a unit works or becomes a problem. Before delivery day, think about:

• Solid, level ground. A unit on a slope is unpleasant and unsafe, and soft ground after rain is how one ends up leaning.
• Truck access. We have to reach it to deliver it and to pump it. If it gets carried somewhere the truck cannot go, it cannot be serviced there.
• Not beside the food. Obvious at a wedding, forgotten at a fundraiser every single time.
• Think about after dark. An unlit unit at the far end of a field is a unit nobody uses.
